For many people, Chris Kiestler was known as a firefighter. He was the person who showed up when help was needed, the person others trusted in difficult moments, and the person who dedicated 24 years of his life to serving his community.

Christopher Ryan Kiestler spent his career serving communities across North Carolina through the Winston-Salem Fire Explorer Program, Winston-Salem Fire Department, Kernersville Fire Department, Stokes County EMS, Wallburg Fire Department, Boonville Fire Department, where he served as Fire Chief, and Spencer Fire Department. He earned the rank of Captain with Winston-Salem, but his legacy was never measured by a title.

It was measured by the people he helped, the lives he touched, and the way he made people feel.

Chris had a way of taking care of people. Whether it was through his work, lending a helping hand, or simply making sure the people around him had what they needed, caring for others was just part of who he was. He had a way of making people feel welcome, like they belonged, and like they were never out of place. Chris had a gift for making people feel comfortable just being themselves.

Outside of the fire service, Chris found joy in the things that made life special. He loved working with leather, creating things with his own hands and putting care into every detail. He loved cooking on his Blackstone, bringing people together over good food and good conversation. He enjoyed listening to Five Finger Death Punch, sharing a cold Red Oak, and finding happiness in the simple things he loved.

Chris took pride in caring for the things entrusted to him. He kept his truck clean, cared for the fire apparatus he worked with, and had a natural ability to organize things in a way that made life easier for everyone around him. It was never about being perfect. It was about taking care of what mattered.

Anyone who knew Chris also knew his sense of humor. He had a sarcastic wit and a way of making people laugh when they least expected it. His phrase, “Send it,” became one of those things that perfectly captured his personality. It was simple, it was funny, and it was unmistakably Chris.

Then there were the little things that made him uniquely himself. His love for otters. His passion for creating. The music playing in the background. The meals shared around the Blackstone. The stories and laughs that will continue to be told for years to come.
